It has been revealed that billions of rupees' worth of
seized gold and silver have not been deposited with the State Bank of Pakistan
by the Customs Collectorates.
According to the sources, the seized gold and silver are
lying in the lockers of the field offices and the Customs Enforcement,
including Airport Collectorates, to submit data on seized gold and silver.
As per the rules, Customs officials are bound to deposit the
seized gold in the State Bank immediately after the laboratory. Since the gold
has not been deposited in the State Bank's reserves, it is not appearing in the
national treasury.
Due to the alleged incompetence of the Customs
Collectorates, there are reports of the change and theft of the seized gold. On
the instructions of Member Customs Operation Syed Shakeel Shah, the field
formation of the Customs has started collecting data of seized gold.
While the Gold worth one and a half billion rupees has been
deposited in the State Bank by the Customs Enforcement Peshawar.
