Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has
announced the establishment of a 50-acre modern Punjab Film City in Lahore, aimed
at giving new life to the film and digital media industry.
Taking an important step to promote the film and media
industry in the province, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has
announced the establishment of a 50-acre Punjab Film City. This project will be
built in the Nawaz Sharif IT City to be established in Lahore.
According to the Chief Minister, the Film City project will
be the country’s first complete ‘end-to-end’ media production hub, where all
modern facilities for film, TV, animation, and digital media will be provided
under one roof.
He said that through this project, the revival of Pakistan’s
film industry will be made possible through modern technology, resources and
world-class facilities, while significantly reducing dependence on foreign
countries for VFX and post-production.
Modern studios, sound stages, and post-production labs will
be established in the Film City, while various sets for shooting, complete
facilities and a central lake will also be part of the project. In addition,
convention halls will also be built to organize international events and award
shows.
The Chief Minister further said that the project also
includes the establishment of a media trade hub, film and music schools, which
will play an important role in promoting new talents. Punjab Film City will
create thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities, while the
animation, gaming and digital media sectors will also be strengthened.
According to Maryam Nawaz Sharif, this project will prove to
be an important milestone in the promotion of the creative economy and will
bring together talent, technology and business on one platform. The project
will be completed in phases, while more details are likely to be released soon.
