Lahore: The electricity crisis worsened even before the heat intensified. Citizens were left helpless due to the worst load shedding across the country. Power outages also led to a water crisis.
According to sources, the power situation in all the discos
across the country has worsened, the average power shortfall has exceeded 3,500
MW, which has led to an increase in unannounced load shedding across Punjab
including Lahore.
Citizens were left in a state of panic due to power outages
lasting 6 to 8 hours a day in cities and 12 to 14 hours in rural areas.
Business and life paralyzed due to power outages throughout the day, while
citizens were also deprived of sleep due to hours of shutdown at night.
The shortfall in LESCO has exceeded 1,000 MW, due to which the
worst load shedding continued in the LESCO region throughout the night, and the
Ministry of Power Division claimed only 2 hours and 15 minutes of load
shedding. In this regard, LESCO sources say that during the day, there is a
decrease in demand due to solar but in the evening the demand boosts to 1000 MW.
Apart from this, citizens of Multan and Jhang are also
worried due to unannounced and long-term load shedding.
In urban areas of Multan, load shedding has started for 8 to
10 hours while in rural areas it has started for up to 12 hours. Load shedding
of electricity on feeders with line losses has been increased by another 2
hours, and the duration of load shedding has reached 14 hours.
According to Multan authorities, the electricity shortfall
has exceeded 500 megawatts. MEPCO requires 2000 megawatts of electricity for 11
million consumers. Due to the increasing shortfall, it is difficult to
implement the schedule given by the government.
In Jhang, the duration of unannounced load shedding has also
exceeded 12 hours, business and domestic consumers are worried due to
three-hour load shedding after every half hour.
On the other hand, in Peshawar, the duration of unannounced
load shedding has also been increased with the onset of summer.
In urban areas, electricity is missing for 15 to 18 hours,
while in suburban areas, the duration of electricity load shedding has reached
20 hours, due to which citizens are worried. Along with domestic consumers, the
business community is also being affected by electricity load shedding.
Citizens say that despite paying a huge amount of money, there is no of
electricity.
The prolonged and unannounced power load shedding has also
led to a water crisis in Lahore and other cities.
