A dangerous increase in divorce cases in Islamabad, with more than 300 cases registered daily

The rising number of divorces in the federal capital is becoming a serious social problem. The registration of hundreds of new cases in family courts every day reflects that the family system has come under severe pressure.

According to the latest data, more than 300 divorce cases are being filed in Islamabad’s family courts every day, while an average of 38 cases are being filed in the courts every hour. In the first few months of this year alone, the number of such cases has crossed 45,000, indicating an alarming increase in social unrest and domestic disputes.

According to sources, more than 9,000 new cases are being registered every month, a significant increase over previous years. In 2023, about 85,000 cases of divorce and nan-nafqa were filed; in 2024 this number reached 91,000, while in 2025 more than one hundred thousand cases were filed in the courts. This situation shows that the foundations of a strong relationship like marriage are weakening and tolerance, trust and mutual harmony between husband and wife are decreasing.

An interesting and worrying aspect is that more than 30 court marriages are also taking place in Islamabad every day, but many of these marriages do not last long. Dozens of cases have come to light in the last four years where divorce was taken only one to three months after marriage.

According to experts and lawyers, cases of divorce and separation are relatively common among couples who marry by choice, a major reason for which is being attributed to hasty decisions, unrealistic expectations and lack of family support.

Legal experts say that economic downturn, unemployment, inflation and increasing drug use have adversely affected domestic life. Financial difficulties and mental stress often lead to disputes between husband and wife, which eventually reach the courts. Experts are emphasizing that there is an urgent need to strengthen the family system, train the youth mentally and morally, and provide better guidance before marriage to reduce the increasing trend of divorce and khula.
