A shocking series of alleged financial fraud and fraudulent transactions of crores of rupees through bogus checks has come to light in Islamabad, where multiple cases have been registered against the same person, Adil Akram, in different police stations.
According to police records, the victims have
alleged that Adil Akram received huge amounts of money from people in the name
of business partnership and profitable investment, but neither returned the
original amount nor paid the profit on time. Later, the checks given to the
victims were also dishonored by the banks, after which the victims took legal
action.
According to the case registered at Margalla
police station, a citizen named Muhammad Salman told the police that Adil Akram,
posing as a businessman, offered him huge profits on investment.
According to the petitioner, he trusted Adil Akram
and handed over crores of rupees in return for which he was given a check.
However, when the check was deposited in the bank on the due date, it was found
that the relevant account had been closed. The victim said that he had
repeatedly demanded the money back but was evasive each time and finally
refused to return the money.
Another similar case was registered at Ramna
police station where a citizen alleged that he had provided a loan of over Rs
10 crore to Adil Akram for investment in a petrol pump business.
According to the petitioner, the cheque given
for the refund was dishonoured due to “insufficient funds” when it was
deposited in the bank. According to police documents, the victim submitted the
cheque, bank slip and other records to the police and took the stand that the
accused had maliciously obtained a huge amount of money through false
assurances.
In another FIR registered at Kohsar police
station, Rawalpindi resident Mubashir Ahmad claimed that Adil Ikram had
received crores of rupees from him in the name of business investment and
promised to pay at different times as per the agreement, but later refused to
fulfill all the promises.
According to the petitioner, despite repeated
demands, the money was not returned and finally a check was given which was
dishonored by the bank. The victim citizen also alleged that he was threatened
when he demanded the money and asked to desist from legal action.
Police records show that all the cases have
been registered under Section 489F of the Pakistan Penal Code, which deals with
issuing checks with fraudulent intent. Initial investigation has also revealed
that the accused obtained investment by misleading different people about
different business projects and later either the accounts were closed or the
required amount was not present in the checks.
According to legal experts, if the allegations
in the cases are proven true, they could constitute not only financial fraud
but also organized fraud. The victims have demanded that the government and law
enforcement agencies conduct a transparent investigation into the matter,
return the victims' money, and take strict legal action against the accused so
that, in the future, citizens can be protected from falling into such financial
traps.
