Islamabad: In Islamabad, the Senate approved the amendment
bill of the Pakistan Airports Authority Act 2026, after which the bill was also
approved by the upper house of the parliament after the National Assembly.
Under the amendment bill, DG Pakistan Airports Authority
will now be able to be appointed from the private sector. The bill has fixed
the tenure of DG PAA for 3 years, while the Prime Minister will also have the
authority to extend it for another 2 years.
According to the bill, approval has also been given to
include a representative of the Defense Division on the board of Pakistan
Airports Authority. In addition, permission has also been added to make
decisions through circulation without calling a board meeting in emergencies.
The amendment bill includes a new clause to prevent conflict
of interest, preventing PAA officers from having a financial interest in any
aviation company during their tenure. Under the law, PAA officers will be
subject to business restrictions for two years even after retirement to avoid
misuse of sensitive information and conflict of interest.
The bill was also amended to allow important decisions of
the authority to be published on the website instead of the official gazette.
Under the amendment bill, several changes have been made in
the administrative and financial powers of the Pakistan Airports Authority,
while important reforms have also been approved in the structure of the executive
committee.
