The public began to demand answers to questions about the assets, foreign assignments and corruption of Ali Tauqeer, Hara Khan, Rebel and Raisa Kanwal.

Amidst rising inflation, unemployment, tax burden and economic crisis in the country, another question is arising in the minds of the public that how do government officials, who receive salaries from the public's taxes, become the owners of assets worth crores of rupees, luxurious life and foreign connections in a few years?

This question has once again come up when news of some influential officers being posted abroad and going on foreign missions has come to light. The names of Ali Tauqeer, Hara Khan, Rebel and Raisa Kanwal are being discussed in public circles and people are openly questioning what the true assets of these officers are, what their sources of income are, and how much tax they have deposited in the national treasury so far.

In a country like Pakistan, where an ordinary citizen is burdened by electricity bills, petrol prices, children's fees and daily expenses, the lavish lifestyle of some officers of government institutions is becoming a source of surprise and anger for the public. Questions are often raised on foreign trips, expensive cars, properties in posh areas and foreign connections, but there are never clear and satisfactory answers to these questions. This is why the impression is growing among the public that perhaps the accountability system for powerful circles is weak or ineffective.

Regarding Ali Tauqeer, Hara Khan, Rebel and Raisa Kanwal, the question is intensifying in public circles that if all these officers are working completely transparently and according to the law, then why are the complete details of their assets not brought before the public?

Why are their bank accounts, properties, cars, foreign trips, investments and assets in the names of their families not being fully examined? The public wants to know where all this wealth came from and whether all these assets are in line with their official salaries or not.

This question is also important if these officers are going to be posted abroad on important responsibilities, have their financial status, tax records and assets been thoroughly investigated? Because posting abroad is not just a job but a representation of the state of Pakistan. In such a situation, if there are questions of financial irregularities or corruption against an officer, then their transparent accountability becomes necessary so that the public's trust in state institutions can be restored.

There is also a perception in public circles that some officers not only obtain important positions by using powerful connections and insider influence, but also later obtain postings abroad. People ask why there is such a difference in the standard of accountability between ordinary government employees and influential officers? If every rupee can be accounted for from a small employee, then why is silence maintained on the financial affairs of high-ranking officers?

Economic experts say that corruption in Pakistan is not only a problem of financial loss, but it also seriously affects the public's trust, the state's reputation and the credibility of institutions. When the public sees that a few individuals are continuously gaining power and wealth through positions, authority and connections, the respect for law and order among the common citizen starts to weaken. This is why people now want to see practical accountability, not just statements.

It is also a fact that most major financial scandals in Pakistan come to light after many years, when the national exchequer has already suffered irreparable damage. That is why the public demands that accountability should not happen only after a scandal, but that the financial affairs of every government official should be regularly monitored and audited annually. The public wants to know whether those who are holding important responsibilities in state institutions are really living within their legal means.

Although it is not right to declare any individual guilty before a court or investigation, it is also not possible to ignore public questions. The people of Pakistan are no longer satisfied with slogans alone, but they want transparency, accountability and real accountability. The people want every influential figure, every government official and every powerful circle to be judged by the same standard of law so that the feeling that two separate systems are running in the country can be eliminated; one for the powerful and the other for the common citizen.
