The government of Pakistan has taken an important and
large-scale decision, keeping in mind the expansion of Islamabad International
Airport and national defense needs. In this regard, approval has been given to
acquire a total of about 62,000 kanals of land from 12 villages adjacent to the
airport, while a formal notification has also been issued in this regard.
According to official sources, the said land will be used
for the expansion of Islamabad International Airport, an increase in air
operations and defense purposes in the future. Officials say that this project
has been declared indispensable in view of the increasing air traffic and
national security needs.
Under the notification issued, about 62,000 kanals of land
located around the airport will be acquired under the Land Acquisition Act.
Following this decision, an immediate ban will be imposed on the purchase and
sale of land and new construction in the affected areas, while formal action is
being initiated to pay compensation to the landowners as per the law.
According to the notification, the 12 villages from which land is being acquired include Bajniyal, Bingo, Kanyal, Chak Fatu, Konjri, Daulatpur, Ganda, Kak Chaudhry, Jangal, Ludhiyal, Mahlo and Mian Rashida.
Sources say that this expansion project will not only
significantly increase the operational capacity of Islamabad International
Airport but will also make defense installations and areas of strategic
importance more secure and effective. Instructions have been issued to the
relevant institutions to immediately start land measurement, survey and other
administrative matters.
