Islamabad: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has predicted the first regular spell of monsoon rains in different parts of the country from July 1 to 6 and has directed relevant institutions and citizens to take precautionary measures.

According to the NDMA, rain with gusty winds, strong winds and thunderstorms are expected in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir, northern Balochistan and upper Sindh.

Intermittent rain is expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiat, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujarat, Jhelum, Chakwal and Attock. Heavy rains are expected in some areas of North-East Punjab and the Potohar region, causing flooding in urban areas.

Rains are expected in Multan, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Lodhran, Khanewal, Muzaffargarh, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Layyah, Bhakkar and Mianwali in South Punjab from July 3 to 5.

Heavy rain, strong winds and thunderstorms have been predicted in the upper and hilly districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from July 1 to 5. There is a possibility of flooding in local rivers and canals in Dir, Swat, Chitral, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Battagram, Shangla and adjoining areas.

The NDMA has warned that there is a risk of landslides and local flooding due to heavy rains in the hilly areas of Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir. Special precautions have been advised in Astore, Skardu, Gilgit, Hunza, Diamer, Ghizer, Shigar and Ghanche.

Rains are also expected in Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley, Rawalakot, Bagh, Haveli, Poonch, Kotli, Bhimber and Mirpur of Azad Kashmir from July 1 to 6.

Thunderstorms are expected in Zhob, Sherani, Barkhan, Sibi, Kohlu, Harnai, Naseerabad and Dera Bugti of Balochistan from July 1 to 4. Rain has been predicted in Larkana, Sukkur, Jacobabad, Dadu, Kashmore, Ghotki, Shikarpur, Khairpur, Shaheed Benazirabad and Naushahro Feroze of Sindh on July 3 and 4.

The NDMA has directed citizens to avoid unnecessary movement near low-lying areas, underpasses and storm drains during heavy rains. Tourists, travelers and local administration have also been advised to stay informed about the weather situation and follow the instructions of the relevant institutions.

The authority has asked the public to use the Pak NDMA Disaster Alert App for timely information. All provincial and district institutions have also been instructed to remain alert to deal with possible weather conditions.
