Sector F-14 and F-15: A new chapter of modern and sustainable housing in Islamabad

Under the new vision for urban development and the improvement of residential facilities in Islamabad, the federal government has reiterated its commitment to transforming Sectors F-14 and F-15 into modern, eco-friendly, and exemplary residential projects.

In this regard, Secretary Housing and Works Captain (Rtd) Muhammad Mehmood visited the project in detail and reviewed the development activities, provision of basic facilities and pending matters.

During the visit, Director General of Federal Government Employees Housing Authority (FGEHA) Captain (retd) Zafar Iqbal, senior officials of National Logistics Corporation (NLC) and other related institutions were also present. The officials were given a detailed briefing on the project's current progress, the challenges faced, and plans.

Secretary Housing clarified on the occasion that the pending cases related to land and cases of built-up properties are causing delay in the development works, therefore, separate special teams will be constituted for their immediate resolution. He said that all obstacles in development projects should be removed on priority basis so that facilities can be provided to the people as soon as possible.

He emphasized that Sector F-14 and F-15 should be developed as a modern urban model of Islamabad and not just a residential project. Under this objective, various elements of eco-friendly infrastructure, modern landscaping, quality urban planning and value addition were agreed to be part of the project.

Officials emphasized the need to develop a comprehensive horticulture plan, including conservation of native trees and greenery among the top priorities of the plan. He said that green environment not only improves living standards but also plays an important role in establishing a unique identity of any sector.

During the visit, a number of proposals were discussed to implement the concept of sustainable development. These include projects such as cycle tracks, solar power plants, rainwater harvesting systems, and construction of check dams. Officials said that it is the need of the hour to develop future residential projects in accordance with the principles of efficient use of energy and water.

The Secretary Housing has called the provision of basic urban facilities as a top priority and directed that water, electricity, sewerage, drainage, street lights and road construction works should be accelerated. He specifically directed to maintain full communication with IESCO and resolve all power issues immediately so that residents do not face any problem in future.

He also directed the concerned officers to conduct an immediate survey of suitable locations for setting up solar power plants in the sector and formulate a comprehensive strategy for the promotion of renewable energy.

Director General FGEHA Captain (retd) Zafar Iqbal also presented several suggestions related to sustainable development on the occasion. He called the construction of modern check dams essential for rainwater storage and protection of underground water resources and stressed the need for a detailed feasibility study in this regard.

 

He suggested adopting a new way of thinking regarding the construction and design of mosques in the sector and said that national and international standard models should be reviewed so that mosques are not only a center for performing religious duties but can also become an important part of the beauty and identity of the area.

Regarding land protection and illegal constructions, the Director General issued strict instructions to the concerned authorities and said that immediate legal action should be taken against encroachments and unauthorized constructions to ensure full implementation of the master plan.

At the end of the visit, Secretary Housing and Works appreciated the efforts of FGEHA, NLC and all the institutions associated with the project and expressed the commitment that all available resources will be utilized to provide modern, quality and sustainable housing facilities to federal government employees. He said that Sector F-14 and F-15 will be among the most beautiful and ideal residential projects of Islamabad in the near future.
