Rawalpindi: It has been revealed that a large amount of
domestic and other types of garbage are allegedly being dumped in the Khanpur
Dam canal passing between Faisal Hills and Margalla Hills, which has raised
serious questions regarding the health of millions of citizens of Rawalpindi
and Islamabad.
Local citizens say that garbage from Faisal Hills and its
surroundings is being continuously dumped into the canal, due to which the
water is being polluted. According to them, this canal system plays an important
role in providing drinking water to the twin cities, therefore, immediate
attention to the possible effects of pollution is indispensable.
Citizens have expressed fear that if this situation is not
remedied in time, the risks of water-borne diseases may increase. He demanded
that the relevant agencies immediately conduct a scientific analysis of the
water quality, take indiscriminate action against those dumping garbage in the
canal, and take permanent and effective measures to prevent pollution.
The public has appealed to the district administration, relevant departments and responsible institutions to take immediate notice of the matter and not only bring the facts to the public but also ensure practical measures on an emergency basis to protect this important water body from pollution.
