Karachi: Sindh's Minister of Culture and Tourism, Syed
Zulfiqar Ali Shah, stated that Mahira Khan and Fahad Mustafa were nominated for
the Sitara-e-Imtiaz award, but the federal government rejected the nominations.
During the opening ceremony of the Karachi Theatre Festival,
Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah declared that the Sindh Department of Culture had twice
proposed the names of Mahira Khan and Fahad Mustafa for the Sitara-e-Imtiaz
award.
According to the provincial minister, the nominations were
made on the recommendation of a committee of prominent figures; however, the
federal government rejected the recommendation to award the national prize to
both actors. The reasons for the rejection were not disclosed to the Sindh
government.
