Customs Enforcement Islamabad has recovered a large
consignment of smuggled and non-duty paid goods, including luxury vehicles,
heavy bikes and electronics, in several operations conducted late night based
on intelligence inputs. The total value of the seized goods is estimated at Rs.
410 million.
Acting on credible intelligence inputs regarding movement
and hoarding of illegal goods in Islamabad and adjoining areas, Customs
Enforcement teams conducted several targeted operations. These operations are
part of the ongoing campaign to eliminate smuggling, protect the national
economy and ensure implementation of customs laws.
During these operations, the Customs authorities seized a
Rolls-Royce luxury car, nineteen Suzuki and Kawasaki heavy bikes, as well as
laptops and other electronic devices in large quantities. Further investigation
confirmed that all these items were non-duty paid and were brought into the
country in violation of applicable customs laws.
All the seized goods have been shifted to the Customs
warehouse for detailed examination and further legal action has been initiated.
Investigations are underway to identify the persons involved and expose the
wider smuggling network. The consignment has been seized under relevant
provisions of the Customs Act, 1969.
The Federal Board of Revenue reiterates its firm commitment
to effective action against smuggling, continuous vigilance, intelligence-led
enforcement and strict application of customs laws to curb illicit trade and
protect national revenues.
