In Gujranwala, a disturbing case of alleged corruption has
surfaced involving officials of the Cyber Crime Wing. According to the details
that emerged, officials raided the house of a citizen and allegedly held the
entire family hostage, including women. Four brothers were reportedly abducted
from the house, subjected to torture, and illegally confined at the cybercrime
office. What followed was a negotiation for their release that reportedly began
at five crore rupees and was eventually settled at three crores. The victim’s
father allegedly paid a large sum in cash, while additional amounts, running
into lakhs, were transferred from the youths’ Binance accounts into various
bank accounts.
Statements attributed to the arrested suspects suggest that
this was not an isolated incident but part of a long-running practice. Innocent
and law-abiding citizens were allegedly detained through fabricated inquiries,
while actual criminal elements were protected. The operation was said to
function as an organized extortion racket, with a fixed distribution of the
illegally recovered money. Investigators claim that 45 percent of the proceeds
from these fake raids were allocated to the Deputy Director, while the
remaining 55 percent was shared among investigation officers.
Further revelations indicate that corruption extended into
appointments as well. Under PSO-2, it is alleged that a bribe of 1.45 crore
rupees was paid for the Deputy Director’s appointment. To manage and monitor
the flow of illegal funds, an Excel sheet was reportedly maintained on a daily
basis to record bribe collections and distributions.
As the case unfolded, five officials were arrested,
including the Office Superintendent and the PSO to the Deputy Director. A
formal case has now been registered, exposing what has been described as a
systematic pattern of corruption and looting within the Gujranwala Cyber Crime
Wing. The scandal has raised serious questions about abuse of power,
accountability, and the protection of citizens’ rights, as further
investigations continue to uncover the depth of the alleged misconduct.
