Three films about Gaza nominated for Oscars

According to the international news agency, three films that were about the war in Gaza have nominated for the Oscar, including two Israeli and one Tunisian film. The Tunisian film that received the Oscar nomination is The Voice of Hind Rajab, which was nominated for best international feature film.

This documentary drama film by director Kausar Ben Haniya tells the story of Hind Rajab, a five-year-old Palestinian girl who was allegedly martyred by Israeli soldiers in Gaza last year. The film dramatizes the efforts of the staff of the Palestinian Red Crescent, which also includes audio of the girl’s real phone call in which she is heard pleading for help among her bereaved family.

The Palestinian Red Crescent alleged that the aid ambulance was targeted by Israeli forces. The film received strong support from the pro-Palestinian filmmaking community during the awards season, with renowned British Jewish filmmaker Jonathan Glazer among its co-producers.

The short film “Butcher’s Stain,” made in Israel on the same subject, was nominated for best live-action short film. The film was directed by Meyer Levinson Blount, a fellow at Tel Aviv University’s film school, and revolves around Samir, an Arab butcher living in Tel Aviv.

Who is accused of removing posters of Israeli hostages who were kidnapped by Hamas in the October 7, 2023, attack and brought to Gaza.

The Arab Muslim teenager has to go through torture, coercion, and a long legal battle to prove his innocence. The film also previously featured at the Student Academy Awards.

The second Israeli film to receive an Oscar nomination is Children No More: Were and Are Gone, also a short film. This documentary, which won the Hilla Medal, was nominated for Best Documentary Short Film. The film shows a silent protest that began in Tel Aviv in March 2025.

Where protesters hold weekly gatherings carrying pictures of children killed in Gaza, which over time has grown into a larger symbolic movement. Several Israeli films submitted for Oscar nominations have been rejected, with much of the content being mere propaganda and a failed attempt to prove Israel is humanitarian.
