Chairman Senate Standing Committee on Climate Change Senator Sherry Rehman has taken strict notice of the large-scale chopping of trees in different areas of Islamabad. She has summoned Chairman CDA to the committee meeting to be held on January 22.
Sherry Rehman said that the cutting of 50-year-old trees in
Islamabad is unacceptable and a clear violation of environmental laws, while
the city cannot be allowed to be turned into a concrete forest in the name of paper
mulberry trees. She warned that the lack of trees will increase heat and
pollution, and if this trend continues, Islamabad may also suffer from smog
like Lahore and Multan.
Sherry Rehman demanded that citizens be fully informed and
strict laws be made to prevent such cutting in the future so that a healthy
environment can be ensured for future generations.
