The School Education Department of Punjab has announced the
implementation of a new dress code for teachers in all government schools of
the province. A formal notification in this regard has been issued and
instructions have been sent to all school heads.
According to the notification, it will now be mandatory for
all teachers to wear black gowns. Female teachers will use closed shoes or
simple sandals. They have been instructed to wear clothes that are simple and
reflect dignity.
Plain and light-colored shalwar kameez has been recommended
for male teachers. They can also wear pants shirts. Closed shoes or strappy
sandals have been allowed for shoes.
According to the education department, the aim of this
decision is to bring uniformity among teachers. This will improve discipline.
The professional identity of teachers will be clear. Officials say that this
move will also increase respect for teachers among students and parents.
