Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf expresses its deep concern and
anger over today’s extremely worrying situation. It is now 7:15 pm, Imran
Khan’s sisters, family members, lawyers and party leaders have been present in
the Supreme Court since morning and the written orders of the court proceedings
have not been handed over to them yet. This extraordinary delay has not only
caused severe mental anguish to Imran Khan’s family and party leadership but
has also created a state of anxiety and panic in the entire nation.
It is regrettable that due to the unavailability of the
written orders, no progress has been made in practice. Imran Khan has not yet
been given access to personal and specialist doctors, nor has he been allowed to
meet his family, nor has the government taken any steps to shift him to the
hospital recommended by the family for treatment of his serious eye problem.
This delay is not just an administrative issue but a dangerous indifference to
the health and life of a 73-year-old prisoner and former Prime Minister, for
which the responsibility lies directly with the Punjab government and the
federal government.
Today, after Friday prayers, a peaceful sit-in was announced
in front of the Parliament House on the call of the Tehreek-e-Tahaffuz-e-Ain
Pakistan. Only parliamentarians were supposed to participate in this peaceful
sit-in, but they were forcibly stopped. Several elected representatives,
including the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, was stopped on the roads,
an atmosphere of fear and panic was created by deploying police at various
places, and cabinet members, members of parliament and even women were
subjected to violence.
The most shameful aspect is that reports of mistreatment and
beating of women have come to light. Depriving elected representatives of their
constitutional right to peaceful protest, erecting obstacles in front of
parliament and suppressing their voices through force are proof that today in
Pakistan, raising one’s voice for one’s rights and peaceful protests have been
made a crime.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf considers these two issues as links
in the same chain. On the one hand, Imran Khan’s health and basic human rights
are being held hostage, on the other hand, elected representatives are being
prevented from speaking and protesting outside parliament. This behavior is not
democratic but open government tyranny.
We demand that the written orders of the Supreme Court be
issued immediately, Imran Khan be given access to personal and expert doctors
without delay, his family be met immediately and he be immediately shifted to
the hospital for eye treatment and the use of force against parliamentarians be
investigated and action taken against those responsible.
The people of this country are not silent spectators. Be it
the injustice done to Imran Khan or the violence on elected representatives, we
will continue to raise our voice against it on every front. Tactics of
coercion, delay and fear cannot stop us from speaking the truth.
