According to Pakistan’s Ministry of Information and
Broadcasting, “Pakistan has targeted seven hideouts of militants affiliated
with the Pakistani Taliban and their ally Islamic State of Khorasan in the
Pakistan-Afghanistan border area in an operation based on intelligence.
A detailed statement issued by the Ministry of Information
and Broadcasting on X said, “Following the recent suicide bombings in Pakistan,
including one attack each in Imambargah in Islamabad, Bajaur and Bannu, and
another incident in Bannu on Saturday, Pakistan has solid evidence that these
terrorist acts are being carried out by the militants at the behest of their
leadership and patrons in Afghanistan.”
It should be noted that a Pakistani army lieutenant colonel
and a soldier were killed in a suicide attack in Bannu on Saturday.
According to the Pakistani military’s public relations
department, on February 21, a convoy of security forces was targeted by the
militant organization TTP in Bannu district when an intelligence-based
operation was underway based on information about the presence of militants,
which included a suicide bomber.
The statement issued by the ministry further said regarding
the operation in Afghanistan that ‘the responsibility for these attacks in
Pakistan has also been claimed by the Pakistani Taliban in Afghanistan, their
affiliate groups and the Islamic State Khorasan Province.’
According to the statement, ‘Pakistan has repeatedly urged
the Afghan Taliban government to take verifiable steps to prevent Afghan soil
from being used by terrorist groups and foreign proxies for terrorist
activities in Pakistan, however, the Afghan Taliban government has failed to
take any effective action against them.’
According to Pakistan’s Ministry of Information and
Broadcasting, ‘Pakistan has always strived to establish peace and stability in
the region, however, the protection of the lives and property of its citizens
is our top priority. In this context, Pakistan, in response to
intelligence-based precision and expertise, has targeted seven terrorist camps
and hideouts of the Pakistani Taliban and their allies and the Islamic State
Khorasan Province in the Pakistan-Afghanistan border area.
At the end of the statement issued on X, the Pakistani
government said that “Pakistan expects and reiterates its demand from the
interim Afghan government to fulfill its responsibilities and prevent
extremists from using its territory against Pakistan.”
“Pakistan also expects the international community to play a
positive and constructive role and urge the Taliban government to uphold its
obligations under the Doha Agreement and prevent its territory from being used
against other countries.
