Suspending a SHO is a scapegoat technique to give the impression of quick action.

The increasing incidents of terrorism and crime in the federal capital have spread severe fear and panic among the citizens. Due to the fears of suicide attacks, armed operations and other life-threatening incidents, the people are feeling unsafe, while serious questions are being raised about the security arrangements and priorities of the top authorities.

According to sources and civic circles, the wave of terrorism in the capital seems to be gaining strength once again in recent past, however, the attention of the Ministry of Interior and the police seems to be limited to temporary and showy measures instead of ground realities. Citizens said that, instead of addressing the real problems and security shortcomings, an attempt is being made to throw dust in the public's eyes by merely doing paperwork and blaming a single individual.

Sources claim that after a recent serious incident, an attempt was made to give the impression that action has been taken by suspending or targeting an SHO, although according to security experts, making a scapegoat of a single officer in a sensitive issue like terrorism is not a solution to the problem but is tantamount to covering up a systematic failure.

Citizens and analyst circles are also criticizing the poor priorities of Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and IG Islamabad. These circles say that intelligence sharing, field command, and effective monitoring at the police station level are indispensable to prevent terrorism, but on the contrary, decisions are being made sitting in offices, the benefits of which are not visible in practice.

According to informed sources, the current situation requires immediate improvement and a change in the top leadership of Islamabad Police. Citizens demand that the IG Islamabad be replaced and given the responsibility to an experienced, field-active and professional commander who can formulate effective strategies according to the sensitive nature of the capital.

Public circles say that if timely and serious steps are not taken, the law and order situation in the capital may further deteriorate, for which the responsibility will fall directly on the policymakers and top administrative officials. Citizens have demanded that the government of the day introduce practical and lasting security reforms instead of showy actions so that Islamabad can be made a truly safe city.
