US officials have told Congress in a briefing that Iran's
drones pose a major challenge to US air defenses and that it is possible that
not all drones can be intercepted.
Two sources present at the briefing told CNN that Defense
Secretary Pat Hegseth and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dan
Kaine acknowledged that the drones were posing a bigger problem than expected
because they fly at low altitudes and slow speeds, making them more difficult
to intercept than ballistic missiles.
However, some officials tried to downplay the concerns,
saying that Gulf allies were stockpiling large numbers of interceptor missiles.
