PTA stops telecom companies from increasing mobile package prices every month


Islamabad: The PTA has stopped telecom companies from increasing the prices of mobile packages on a monthly basis. PTA has formally informed telecom companies about the prices of mobile packages that the prices of mobile packages can now be increased only on a quarterly basis.

Officials said that earlier telecom companies used to increase the prices of packages on a monthly basis, while from now companies will be allowed to increase the prices of packages by looking at the price of the previous year, they are allowed to increase by 10 to 20 percent compared to the previous year.

PTA was receiving complaints from consumers, on which action was taken, PTA has implemented Mobile Tariff Regulations 2025. PTA has taken this step-in view of a systematic and balanced tariff system.

According to officials, telecom companies are bound to get prior approval from PTA before launching new packages, companies must also get approval from PTA before increasing the current rates.

PTA officials clarified that PTA is also monitoring the stability of the telecom market along with consumer protection. The average revenue per user in Pakistan is the lowest in the region. In the last few years, the average revenue per user of telecom companies has increased.

They also said that the average revenue per user will improve further after the launch of 5G. The spectrum auction is expected to bring significant improvements in coverage, network performance and data speed across the country.
