While the ongoing war between the US and Iran has caused concern around the world, a new and strange debate has emerged within the US military.
According to British media, some US military commanders have
been accused of telling their soldiers that this war with Iran is actually part
of God’s plan that is connected to the end of the world and the return of Jesus
Christ.
According to the British news agency ‘Daily Mail’, the
‘Military Religious Freedom Foundation’, an organization working to protect
human rights, has claimed that it has received complaints from more than 100
personnel belonging to various military units in the past few days. These
complaints state that military officers are giving this war a religious color.
A senior military official, speaking on condition of
anonymity, said that his commander, while addressing the soldiers, claimed that
President Donald Trump had been chosen for a specific religious purpose to
ignite the fire of war in Iran to lay the foundation for this great battle
after which the world would end and Jesus Christ would return to earth.
The commander allegedly quoted the Bible and urged the
soldiers to tell their subordinates that all this was happening under a divine
plan.
These military officials say that such talk is affecting
unity and discipline within the military because there are people of all
religions in the military and they swear allegiance to the Constitution and not
to any particular religious ideology.
On the other hand, a White House official has denied these
allegations, saying that no such instructions were given to military commanders
and that this war is not based on any religious prophecy.
Trump administration officials say the war has only three
primary objectives, including destroying Iran's missile systems, weapons
industry, and navy. However religious tendencies seem to be deeply rooted in
American defense circles.
According to the Daily Mail, current Defense Secretary Pat
Hegseth holds monthly prayer services at the Pentagon and is also reading the
Bible to a preacher who calls supporting Israel a religious duty.
Similarly, President Trump's longtime spiritual advisor
Paula White and renowned pastor John Hagee have also been preaching for years
that war with Iran is actually a sign of the end of the world.
The situation in the Middle East is currently extremely
tense. After the killing of the Iranian supreme leader in a joint operation on
Saturday, Iran retaliated by launching missile and drone attacks on American
bases, embassies, and US allies in the region, including Israel.
President Trump initially hoped the war would end in four to
five weeks, but has now warned that it could take much longer than expected.
There is anxiety among ordinary soldiers about the situation
because they are ready to go to the front but do not seem to be in favor of
fighting this war on religious grounds rather than political or defensive
grounds.
