New
York: The United Nations has announced the establishment of a new UN task force
for the Strait of Hormuz.
UN
Coordinator Jorge Moreira da Silva says that the focus will be on the delivery
of fertilizer, and efforts are being made to ensure the safe passage of ships
carrying fertilizer and raw materials.
The
United Nations has issued a warning that disruptions to maritime trade pose a
risk of a food crisis, and countries in the Middle East, Africa and Asia may be
affected.
According
to the UN, urgent measures are necessary to avoid a humanitarian crisis. Earlier,
Iranian representative Reza Najafi said that Tehran has agreed to facilitate
and expedite the transport of humanitarian aid shipments through the Strait of
Hormuz at the request of the UN.
The
aim is to maintain the delivery of relief and agricultural goods passing
through this important sea passage during the war to reduce the effects of
global shortages of food and other necessities.
