Lahore: Legendary Indian singer Asha Bhosle has passed away
at the age of 92.
Asha Bhosle was admitted to the hospital yesterday due to a
chest infection, and her death was due to multiple organ failure.
According to her son Anand Bhosle, said that One of the
greatest and most versatile voices in the history of Indian music has left
behind a legacy that has influenced the world of Indian cinema and music for
more than eight decades. Her last rites will be performed on the evening of 13th
April.
Born in 1933, Asha Bhosle started music at a young age,
gained fame in the 1950s and eventually became one of the world’s most famous
playback singers. Her voice was playful, emotional and extremely versatile; she
influenced many generations of music lovers.
During her illustrious career, she recorded thousands of
songs in various Indian languages, including classical music, ghazal, cabaret,
pop and folk music. Her collaborations with renowned musicians and filmmakers
gave Hindi cinema countless memorable songs, making her an enduring cultural
icon.
She was honored with several awards for her services to
music, including the Dadasaheb Phalke Award and the Padma Bhushan. In 2011,
Guinness World Records declared her the artist with the most recorded songs in
the history of music.
Even in her later years, Asha Bhosle remained connected to
music, occasionally performing and inspiring a new generation of artists. Her
influence was not limited to playback singing, but she also redefined the role
of the female voice in Indian music.
