Quetta: According to a spokesperson for the Federal Bureau of Revenue (FBR), customs officials have foiled an attempt to smuggle dangerous narcotic drug methadone worth Rs 446.1 million at the Pak-Iran border in Taftan.
According to the spokesperson, on the instructions of the
Chief Collector of Customs Appraisal Balochistan, the Collectorate of Customs
Taftan conducted an operation at the border terminal and recovered 620 cartons
from a container, which contained 11.11 million Iranian-made methadone
hydrochloride tablets (40 mg).
During the operation, a person present at the spot, Sikandar
Hayat, was arrested, who was trying to transport the prohibited drug in a
private vehicle. The suspect confessed that the drug belongs to Haji Amanullah,
an importer from Taftan, who is already facing customs fraud cases.
According to the spokesperson, the accused's other
accomplice, Asim, fled the scene, while a case has been registered under the
Control of Narcotic Substances Act 1997, and an investigation has been
initiated.
