Islamabad: The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has
filed a request to increase electricity prices by 27 paise per unit for
consumers across the country, including Karachi.
The price of electricity is likely to increase by 26 paise
per unit. This increase has been sought as part of the monthly fuel adjustment
for March. The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) will hear
the application filed by CPPA in this regard on April 28, in which the request
for a possible increase in prices will be reviewed.
According to CPPA, a total of 8 billion 939 million units of
electricity were generated during March, while 8 billion 644 million units were
supplied to the discos.
The documents state that the estimated cost of fuel per unit
for March was Rs 7.99, but the actual cost increased to Rs 8.26 per unit. In
March, 23.55 percent of electricity was generated from hydro, 16.76 percent
from local coal, 13.80 percent from imported coal and 5.64 percent from
imported LNG.
Similarly, 1.02 percent of electricity was generated from furnace oil, 11.34 percent from local gas and 21.95 percent from nuclear fuel. Among renewable sources, 3.46 percent was generated from wind while 1.18 percent was generated from solar.
