Pakistan Customs has arrested two preventive officers, Arif
Ali Jumani and Samiullah Achakzai, on suspicion of collusion and replacing
silver biscuits with lead.
Earlier, on April 5, 2026, a team was deployed to deposit
688 kilograms of seized silver at the Pakistan Mint, Lahore, in accordance with
the prescribed rules and regulations. In this regard, both officers, Arif Ali
Jumani and Samiullah Achakzai, were entrusted with the responsibility of safe
delivery of the silver.
They took custody of the silver packed in 36 sealed boxes
from the State Warehouse Quetta. These boxes were loaded and taken to Quetta
International Airport, from where they were transferred to Allama Iqbal
International Airport, Lahore by a PIA flight.
Later, all the sealed boxes were taken to Pakistan Mint
Lahore, where they were opened in the presence of both officers and Mint staff.
After a detailed investigation, it was revealed that out of
688 kg, 400 kg of silver was fake i.e., lead instead of silver. On which the Customs
Enforcement Collectorate Quetta formed a team to find out the facts of the
matter.
During the investigation, CCTV footage of Safe City Quetta
revealed that the two preventive officers responsible for the safe delivery of
silver deliberately replaced the vehicle carrying the genuine silver with
another vehicle carrying fake silver, i.e., lead biscuits of the same weight.
On this revelation, a case has been registered against both officers
and they have been arrested. Further legal action and investigation are
underway to determine the possible involvement of other persons or officials
involved in this crime.
