The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Immigration has
offloaded a woman going to Oman at Islamabad International Airport on the basis
of suspicious travel documents and detained her for further investigation.
According to sources, the woman Shabana Bibi appeared during
immigration clearance to depart for Oman where she claimed that she was
traveling to meet her husband on a Relative Joining Visa. Immigration
officials, during routine checks, found the marriage registration certificate presented
by the woman suspicious, after which further investigation was initiated.
During the investigation, another marriage certificate was
recovered from the woman’s mobile phone, after which serious discrepancies
regarding her marital status came to light. Sources say that the information
contained in both documents was different from each other, which further
increased the suspicions of the authorities.
Initial investigation also revealed that the Oman visa and
other travel documents were allegedly obtained through fake and illegal means.
FIA officials took immediate action and offloaded the woman and handed her over
to FIA AHTC Islamabad for further legal action.
The authorities have seized the woman’s mobile phone,
passport, visa documents and other important evidence while investigations are
underway into various aspects of the case. According to sources, the scope of
the investigation is also likely to be expanded to include human trafficking
and fake document networks.
