Mexico: Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has confirmed
that the Iranian national football team will stay in Mexico during the upcoming
FIFA World Cup.
According to a global news agency, Claudia Sheinbaum told
the media that the United States has refused to allow the Iranian team to spend
the night in their country, after which FIFA contacted Mexico.
President Sheinbaum said that we have no reason to refuse to
host Iran, the United States does not want to allow the Iranian team to stay in
its country even though all three of their matches will be in the United
States.
Later, FIFA announced that the Iranian team’s training
center will be established in the Mexican city of Tijuana.
Earlier, the city of Tucson, Arizona, was selected as the
base camp for Iran, but the situation changed due to ongoing tensions and
security concerns in the Middle East. Iran will play its group stage matches
against New Zealand, Belgium and Egypt in various cities in the United States.
On the other hand, Iranian Sports Minister Ahmad Donya Mali
said that the FIFA president has assured that Iranian players will be issued
visas to enter the United States.
However, the United States has hinted at possible sanctions
on individuals affiliated with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps.
