Lahore: Sugar mill owners have sought permission
to export 1 million tons of sugar.
Sources in the Ministry of Production say that
sugar mill owners have sought permission to export 1 million tons of sugar, and
sugar stock data in this regard has been provided to the ministry.
Sugar industry sources say that more than one
billion dollars can be earned by getting permission to export sugar, while in
case of non-export, the mills will face financial losses.
According to sources in the Ministry of
Production, the government has made it clear that sugar mill owners will first
have to guarantee that sugar prices will not increase in the local market,
otherwise export will not be allowed.
Sources say that after the permission to export
700,000 tons of sugar was granted last year, prices in the country had
increased rapidly and the price of sugar per kg had increased from Rs 120 to Rs
200.
