Sugar mill owners seek permission to export 1 million tons of sugar

Lahore: Sugar mill owners have sought permission to export 1 million tons of sugar.

Sources in the Ministry of Production say that sugar mill owners have sought permission to export 1 million tons of sugar, and sugar stock data in this regard has been provided to the ministry.

Sugar industry sources say that more than one billion dollars can be earned by getting permission to export sugar, while in case of non-export, the mills will face financial losses.

According to sources in the Ministry of Production, the government has made it clear that sugar mill owners will first have to guarantee that sugar prices will not increase in the local market, otherwise export will not be allowed.

Sources say that after the permission to export 700,000 tons of sugar was granted last year, prices in the country had increased rapidly and the price of sugar per kg had increased from Rs 120 to Rs 200.
