Lakpass Customs warehouse in Mastung area of Balochistan has once again become the epicenter of a tragic accident, where at least 31 people were injured and burnt in a horrific explosion in an oil bowser under customs custody.
According to rescue sources, rescue operations were launched
immediately after the explosion and all the injured were immediately shifted to
the Civil Hospital, where an emergency has been imposed in the burn ward and
medical aid is being provided to the victims. According to the hospital
administration, the condition of 4 of the 31 injured is very critical, and
teams of doctors are continuously trying to save them.
This sad incident has come at a time when Lakpass Customs is
already under severe criticism for the fire in vehicles worth billions of
rupees. Public anger and outrage have intensified after the recent explosion
and fire, and victims have accused the customs authorities of gross negligence
and poor management.
Citizens say that hundreds of vehicles and various goods
were in the custody of customs for the past several years, but neither were the
cases disposed of promptly nor were safety measures ensured, as a result of
which today along with valuable vehicles, human lives have also been put in
danger.
According to the affected people, the value of the vehicles
and goods destroyed in the fire and explosion reaches billions of rupees, while
the livelihood of many families was dependent on these vehicles. Citizens
claimed that minor cases were pending against several vehicles, which included
Iranian biscuits, chocolates and other edible items, but the continuous delay
in the cases has brought the situation to such a point that today not only the
vehicles were burnt to ashes, but several people are in a struggle for life and
death due to burns.
The people have demanded that the government conduct a
transparent investigation into the incident and take immediate action against
the responsible officers, provide the best medical facilities to the injured,
fully compensate the losses of the affected families and immediately dispose of
all pending cases at Lak Pass Customs. Citizens say that this tragedy is not
just a financial loss but also a big question mark over the trust, future, and
security of the people of Balochistan.
