A major development has come to light in the Waqaruddin Syed
inquiry case. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has ordered departmental action
against former Director General of the National Cyber Crime Investigation
Agency, Waqaruddin Syed.
According to sources, the former DG has been accused of
alleged corruption, misuse of authority and misconduct during his tenure. It is
said that after the statements given by subordinate officers, confessional
evidence and video statements, it was decided to conduct a formal investigation
into the matter.
After the approval of the Prime Minister, Salman Chaudhry, a
senior officer of Grade 21, has been appointed as the inquiry officer, who will
investigate the allegations from various angles. A formal charge sheet has also
been issued to Waqaruddin Syed in this regard.
Sources say that after the start of the Waqaruddin Syed
inquiry, the former DG has approached the Islamabad High Court to challenge the
departmental action. The petition has taken the position that there are certain
technical and legal flaws in the inquiry procedure, and the proceedings should
be stopped.
According to legal experts, it will be clear only after the
hearing of the petition filed in the court whether the departmental inquiry
will continue in its current form or if any changes will be made in its
procedure.
On the other hand, no final decision has been taken at the
official level regarding these allegations yet and liability or innocence will
be determined only after the inquiry is completed.
