CDA cancels NOC of Wasa Rawalpindi’s tube wells, orders immediate closure of operations

ISLAMABAD: Capital Development Authority (CDA) Islamabad Water has cancelled the NOC issued for tube wells installed on the service road of Islamabad Expressway from Faizabad to Coral Interchange and issued orders to immediately close their operations.

According to a letter issued by CDA, on June 10, 2022, Wasa Rawalpindi was allowed to install 15 tube wells in the green belt along the Islamabad Expressway. However, it was later learned that as a result of the NOC issued without taking into account the groundwater level in the area, the domestic bores and private tube wells of the local population started drying up due to indiscriminate use of water.

The letter states that the residents of the affected areas approached the higher authorities due to severe water shortage and protested, demanding that the tube wells used by WASA Rawalpindi within the limits of Islamabad be closed.

According to the CDA, the competent authority, taking strict notice of the situation, has issued instructions to withdraw the said NOC and all other NOCs of this nature. According to the order, all NOCs issued for drawing water or installing new tube wells in the adjacent areas of Islamabad Expressway will be considered cancelled and the operation of the existing tube wells will be stopped immediately.

These orders have been issued by Director General, Islamabad Water Sardar Khan Zanri on the instructions of Member Planning and Development, CDA.
