Minimum monthly wage increased by 10%, surcharge on the salaried class abolished

Islamabad: The minimum wage of workers has been increased by 10 percent in the budget 2026-27.

The federal government has announced a 10 percent increase in the minimum monthly wage in the budget for the next fiscal year, after which the minimum salary will increase from Rs 37,000 to Rs 40,700.

Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb said during the budget speech that the Prime Minister has fulfilled his promise to reduce the financial burden on the salaried class, the increase in the minimum wage will provide relief to the low-income class and help reduce the effects of inflation.

He announced that the government has decided to abolish the surcharge imposed on the salaried class, which will directly benefit millions of employees. The Finance Minister said that the Prime Minister is well aware of the difficulties faced by government and private sector employees and steps will be taken to create more facilities for them.
