California: YouTube has started rolling out its new in-app
messaging feature after a testing phase, which aims to provide users with the
opportunity to chat directly on videos within the platform.
Under the new feature, a new messaging icon has been added
to the top right corner of the YouTube app, through which users will be able to
share videos, shorts and live streams as well as have one-to-one chats.
However, this feature has a special security and control
system, according to which to start a direct conversation with any user, an
invitation link must first be sent to him. This link will be valid for seven
days and can be shared via WhatsApp or any other third-party chat app, the aim
of which is to make it easier for friends and family to communicate rather than
strangers.
According to YouTube, this feature was highly requested by
users during its testing last year. It should be noted that the company had
provided a similar messaging service until 2019, which was later discontinued.
Furthermore, in the new system, when a user clicks on the
invitation link, they will be given the option to “continue messaging” or “not
now,” which is why this feature has been limited mostly to sharing and
discussing videos rather than being a full-fledged social chat platform.
