Irrigation officials wrote a letter to the Sindh government about the severe water shortage in Balochistan

Quetta: Balochistan is facing severe water shortage in the Pit Feeder and Kherthar Canal.

According to irrigation officials, Sindh is not getting the water allocated to Balochistan under the IRSA agreement.

Superintendent of Irrigation, Nasirabad Circle Engineer, Mudassar Zafar Khosa, wrote a letter to the Balochistan government, stating that the Sindh government should immediately provide water to Balochistan.

The letter states that the water discharge in the Pit Feeder has reduced from 6500 to 2725 cusecs and the water supply in the Pit Feeder Canal has decreased by 58%.

Mudassar Zafar Khosa said that Sindh is diverting the water allocated to Balochistan to its canal network, and rice cultivation is likely to be severely affected due to water shortage.

The letter further suggested that third-party monitoring be done to monitor the distribution of water.
