Motorway Police foiled an attempt to smuggle non-customs-paid
cigarettes worth Rs 220 million in a major operation.
According to a Motorway Police spokesperson, an operation
was conducted near Chakri on a tip-off, during which a large quantity of non-customs-paid
cigarettes was recovered from 11 trucks. Officials say that the smuggled
cigarettes were being transported from Peshawar to Lahore. As a result of the
timely action, 11 trucks were seized, and 11 drivers were also taken into
custody.
According to the spokesperson, the value of the cigarettes
recovered during the search is estimated to be around Rs 220 million. The
Motorway Police has handed over the recovered cigarettes, trucks and the
accused to the Customs authorities for further legal action.
