Islamabad: The federal government has imposed a major disciplinary punishment against Police Service of Pakistan (PSP) Grade 20 officer Babar Bakht Qureshi after completing a lengthy departmental action.

According to the official notification issued, the Prime Minister, as the competent authority, has imposed a major punishment of demotion from his permanent post and lower grade and pay scale on Babar Bakht Qureshi for three years under the Civil Servants (Efficiency and Discipline) Rules 2020, which has been implemented immediately.

According to the notification, the departmental inquiry against the said officer was initiated on June 21, 2023, after the tip of Khabrain TV, while this decision was announced after the inquiry was completed and all legal requirements were fulfilled. The official order has clarified that Babar Bakht Qureshi will also have the right to approach the relevant appellate authority within 30 days from the date of issuance of the notification under the Civil Servants (Appeal) Rules, 1977.

According to sources, the matter of serious allegations and irregularities related to Babar Bakht Qureshi came to light several years ago, after which investigations were initiated against him at various levels. After a long departmental action, the federal government has imposed this major disciplinary punishment against him.

Official sources say that this decision is an expression of the fact that action is being taken as per departmental rules on irregularities proven against government officers, while the concerned officer also has the right to appeal legally.
