Islamabad: Lieutenant General Amir Raza has been promoted to the rank of four-star general.
According to the Prime Minister's Office, the Prime Minister
has promoted Lt. Gen. Amir Raza to the rank of four-star general. Lt. Gen. Amir
Raza has been appointed as the Commander, National Strategic Command; he was
serving as the Chief of General Staff.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated General Amir
Raza, Hilal-e-Imtiaz Military, Sitara-e-Basalat, on his promotion and
appointment and expressed his best wishes for General Amir Raza for this
important responsibility.
General Amir Raza passed the commission in 1988, graduated
from Command and Staff College Quetta and National Defense University
Islamabad, in addition to which he has also obtained a degree in International
Relations from the University of Nottingham.
General Amir Raza was appointed Chief of General Staff GHQ
in January 2025, in addition to which he has served as Corps Commander Lahore
and Chairman Heavy Industries Taxila.
It may be recalled that after the passage of the Pakistan
Army, Air Force and Navy (Amendment) Bill 2025, the post of Commander National
Strategic Command was introduced; under the same legislation, Field Marshal
Asim Munir was appointed Chief of Defense Forces.
It was formed after the abolition of the post of Chairman
Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC), with General Shamshad Mirza being the
last officer to serve in the post, after which the post was abolished.
According to the amended law, the Prime Minister has the
authority to appoint the Commander National Strategic Command from among the
serving generals of the Pakistan Army, this appointment will be made for a
period of three years on the recommendation of the Chief of Army Staff, while
the Chief of Army Staff will hold the post of Chief of Defence Forces.
