ISLAMABAD: In a shocking incident of alleged misuse of power
in the federal capital, a government magistrate’s driver was arrested on
charges of harassing traders and citizens by posing as a government employee,
taking them hostage and extorting money.
According to the police, the accused Usama has been arrested
by the Industrial Area Police Station under case number 560/26. He is accused
of entering a center located at Plaza No. 2000 of I-8 Market along with his
other accomplices on June 20, where he pretended to be a magistrate’s employee
and staged a fake operation.
According to the allegations, the accused and his
accomplices illegally detained several citizens, including a car painter,
tortured them and snatched thousands of rupees in cash and mobile phones from
them.
According to initial investigations, the arrested accused
and his accomplices have allegedly been extorting money from traders by
conducting fake raids and threatening government action in I-8 and the surrounding
areas for a long time. The police are also searching for other alleged members
and facilitators of this network.
Traders demand the arrest of the remaining accused:
After the incident, local traders and citizens have
appreciated the timely action of the Industrial Area Police Station and
demanded that the other accused and facilitators involved in this case be
arrested as soon as possible and brought to justice, so that in the future no
one can harass citizens by using the name of a government position or
institution.
Police say that the investigation into the case is ongoing
and more arrests are expected in light of the available evidence. According to
authorities, all citizens are equal in the eyes of the law and no influential
figure or person in their name will be allowed to take the law into their own
hands.
