Islamabad: The Islamabad High Court has summoned the Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad and IG Islamabad Police in person for the next hearing on a petition regarding the increasing number of shisha cafes in the federal capital and the increase in AIDS and HIV patients.
Chief Justice Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar heard the petition of
citizen Abdul Jabbar, and lawyer Muhammad Sohail Khurshid appeared in the court
on behalf of the petitioner.
During the hearing, the Chief Justice inquired why there was
a need to seek details of shisha cafes. On this, the petitioner’s lawyer took
the stand that there are many shisha cafes with and without NOC in Islamabad,
where parties continue from evening to late night and even till morning.
The lawyer told the court that the Health Minister has
stated that due to parties that continue until late at night, AIDS and HIV
cases are increasing. He requested that the court seek complete details of the
shisha cafes and also inform them about the procedure for action against cafes
that violate the rules and regulations.
The court issued notices to the Chief Commissioner, Deputy
Commissioner Islamabad and IG Islamabad Police, seeking their response at the
next hearing, while also ordering the Deputy Commissioner and IG to appear in
person. Later, the hearing of the case was adjourned until next week.
