A sensitive diplomatic dispute has emerged between Pakistan
and the UK, which is reportedly straining relations between the two countries.
In the context of this situation, fears are being expressed that if matters
deteriorate further, it could also have an impact on Pakistani citizens,
including tougher visa policies or decisions on financial assistance.
According to reports, this matter came to light after the
release of Shabbir Ahmed, a British citizen of Pakistani origin. Shabbir Ahmed
spent almost 14 years in a British prison after being convicted in sex crime
cases. His release took place after completing his legal sentence, but there
was a strong reaction from the British public and the victims. Several quarters
demanded that Shabbir Ahmed be expelled from the UK because his presence makes
the victims feel unsafe.
According to reports, the British government was facing
legal complications in the matter of Shabbir Ahmed’s deportation. It is said
that under British migration laws, it was not easy to deport some Commonwealth
citizens who had settled in the UK before a certain period. However, after
public pressure, the government took legal steps to remove this obstacle.
Later, it was claimed in the British media that Pakistan
refused to immediately accept Shabbir Ahmed and put forward certain conditions.
According to these reports, Pakistan took the position that Shabbir Ahmed had
been living in the UK for the past several decades, so the issue of his return
should be linked to some other legal and diplomatic issues.
The reports also claimed that Pakistan also raised the issue
of the extradition of former UK-based accountability advisor Shahzad Akbar,
former army officer and YouTuber Adil Raja, and MQM founder Altaf Hussain.
Pakistan has previously made requests and legal actions to the British
authorities for the return of relevant figures.
On the other hand, due to British laws and regulations
related to human rights, such demands are not considered easy to implement.
This is why, on the one hand, the British public is demanding Shabbir Ahmed’s
deportation, while on the other hand, Pakistan seems to be sticking to its
terms, which may complicate diplomatic negotiations between the two countries.
According to analysts, if both countries persist in their
respective positions, tensions may increase further. Some unconfirmed reports
have also claimed that the British government may consider measures such as
tightening visa conditions for Pakistani citizens or reviewing certain
financial aid programs for Pakistan, however, no official announcement has been
made by either Britain or Pakistan in this regard.
Diplomatic experts say that such sensitive matters are usually resolved through negotiations and legal processes, so the future actions and official positions of both countries will determine the future of this dispute.
