institutional status, Capital Hospital has the full potential to function as a
modern, effective, reliable and patient-friendly medical institution.
According to CDA, the main objective of Capital Hospital is
to provide safe, quality and cost-effective comprehensive medical facilities,
including emergency, surgical, indoor and outdoor patient treatment, specialist
doctor services, diagnostic facilities and rehabilitation.
However, the various complaints and concerns raised about
the hospital including unavailability of medicines, especially essential
medicines in emergencies, unavailability of specialist doctors, unnecessary
referral of patients to private hospitals, non-payment of dues by pharmacies
and suppliers providing medicines, cleanliness and hygiene issues, unnecessary
testing by private laboratories, lack of proper patient care, and financial and
administrative oversight issues require the utmost serious attention.
It is important to make it clear that the above complaints
and allegations need to be investigated independently, transparently, and
comprehensively, rather than being taken as final facts. However, if any of
these matters are confirmed, it will not be a mere administrative weakness but
a serious governance issue in an institution where even the slightest
negligence can endanger human life.
Therefore, instead of criticizing individuals, the Capital
Hospital needs to be reorganized on the principles of system reform, merit,
transparency, professional management, financial discipline, medical
accountability and patient welfare.
