Berlin: Workers in Germany have discovered an important
Roman site dating back nearly 2,000 years during construction work.
The accidental discovery during the construction of the LVR
Jewish Museum includes a private altar, extensive building foundations and a
stone staircase.
The oldest of these discoveries is a stone staircase, of
which only the middle part remains and experts believe that this staircase led
to the Praetorium (the official residence of the local governor) towards the
Rhine River. However, its ends have not been definitively determined.
Archaeologists have confirmed that the site dates back to
the Roman period in the first century.
