Google announces that 40 percent of Android phones are at risk

New York: Google said that 40 percent of Android phones worldwide could be vulnerable to new cyber attacks.

Google, while releasing an Android update, confirmed that phones running Android 2.0 and older versions will not be able to withstand such attacks and that only 58% of the world’s phones will be able to withstand cyber attacks. The information given in the latest chart is worrying.

According to the data, at the time of data collection (in December), the latest operating system, Android 16 was present on only 7.5% of phones, while Android 15 was used on 19.3% of phones, Android 14 on 17.9% of phones, and Android 13 on 13.9%.

These four versions of Android are important because Google no longer provides important security updates for Android 12 or older versions, so while about 58% of phones are still under Google’s security support, more than 40% of phones are deprived of this facility.

More than a billion users are at risk of new cyber attacks and have no way to secure their phones through security updates.

Apple is reportedly having trouble getting its iPhone users to upgrade to iOS 26. Until users upgrade, they remain vulnerable to new attacks. However, this problem is temporary, as most iPhones will be updated in the coming months. There are very few Apple iPhones that are completely out of support.

If your Android phone can't update to Android 13 or later, you should seriously consider getting a new phone.
