Lahore: The Punjab government has proposed to purchase two
new bulletproof vehicles for provincial ministers, the estimated cost of which
is said to be around Rs 400 million. According to sources, these vehicles will
be used by provincial ministers Marriyum Aurangzeb and Uzma Bukhari.
Government circles said that in view of security concerns
and the current situation, it is the responsibility of the state to provide
safe travel facilities to ministers. According to sources, the purchase of
bulletproof vehicles will be made after fulfilling all legal requirements and
the recommendations of security agencies will also be included.
On the other hand, this decision is being severely
criticized in social media and public circles. In the context of inflation,
unemployment and lack of basic facilities, citizens are raising questions as to
whether it is appropriate to spend such a large amount on security vehicles in
the current economic situation?
Many citizens claimed that the health, education and
employment sectors in the province are already suffering from a shortage of
resources, in such a situation, Rs 400 million could have been spent on public
welfare.
According to economists, security spending is part of the
government budget, but transparency and prioritization are crucial to maintain
public trust.
In this regard Opposition parties have also criticized the
decision, saying that the government should set an example of simplicity and
austerity, while government representatives maintain that compromise on
security is not possible.
The issue is likely to become a topic of political debate in
the coming days, while civic circles await further details and official
clarification on the decision.
