Lahore: Section 144 has been imposed across Punjab, after
which the Home Department issued a notification.
According to the notification issued, Section 144 will be
imposed on all types of swimming in dams, rivers, canals, ponds and lakes,
unauthorized boating in dams, rivers, canals, ponds, lakes and distributaries,
and bathing in accumulated rainwater on streets, roads, open spaces or public
places.
In addition, a ban has been imposed on all the
aforementioned activities for 60 days under Section 144. The restrictions have
been imposed to protect precious human lives in the context of the current
weather conditions.
The spokesperson of the Punjab Home Department said that
bathing in this water during heavy rains can pose serious risks to children and
youth. The water level in dams, rivers, canals, ponds and lakes across Punjab
is high these days. In such a situation, swimming and boating are extremely
dangerous for human life.
He said that the Punjab Home Secretary has imposed
restrictions under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code 1898. The
administration and law enforcement agencies should ensure the implementation of
the order.
It should be noted that during heavy rains in the monsoon,
there has been a significant increase in the accumulation of rainwater in
low-lying areas and open spaces.
