Islamabad: The public had pinned high hopes on the National
Cyber Crime Agency established to tackle cybercrimes in the country, but
victims from Islamabad and other cities are still facing severe difficulties in
getting justice.
According to the victims, after the establishment of the
agency, it was expected that immediate action would be taken on cases of cyber
fraud, harassment and online crimes, but the practical situation seems to be
the opposite. Sources say that thousands of applications have been pending for
a long time and no significant progress has been made on them.
The victims say that they traveled from far away to get
their complaints redressed, but after multiple visits, they didn’t get justice.
Some victims alleged that they are not provided proper guidance by the staff,
and sometimes they have to face misguidance as well.
The complainants say that many applications have been
pending for years, while many applications have been left in files without
action. The victims are of the view that immediate steps should be taken to
provide them justice and the pending cases should be disposed of as soon as
possible.
Social circles and citizens have demanded that the agency’s system be made more effective, the number of staff should be increased and a clear and transparent procedure should be adopted for redressal of complaints so that the trust of citizens can be restored.
