Tehran: Iran has confirmed its participation in this year’s
FIFA World Cup in the United States.
The Iranian Ministry of Sports has said that the Iranian
team is ready to participate in this year’s Football World Cup in the United
States.
Iranian government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajrani said that
the necessary steps have been taken to participate in the event, and the FIFA
president has previously said that the Iranian team will participate in the
World Cup.
It should be noted that Iran has qualified for the 2026 FIFA
World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico,
starting on June 11. All of Iran’s matches are scheduled in the United States,
and Iran will play its first group match against New Zealand on June 15 in Los
Angeles, then against Belgium on June 21 and Egypt on June 27.
Recently, the Iranian Football Federation said that it was
in talks with FIFA to move its matches to Mexico due to the ongoing war with
the United States and Israel.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump had said regarding the
participation of the Iranian football team in the World Cup that it would not
be appropriate for Iran to play the World Cup in the United States under these
circumstances, while Iran had responded by saying that no one can exclude the
Iranian national team from the World Cup.
Iran's Sports Minister also banned players from traveling to
countries with opposing views last week. Later, during the first war, US
President Donald Trump said that the Iranian team would be welcome for the
Football World Cup.
